What Is Mind-Body Medicine?

At Sacred Stillness Meditation & Mind-Body Medicine I am dedicated to helping you find inner stillness, peace and healing through science-backed and evidence-based mindfulness meditation that is also steeped in the wisdom traditions of Yoga, Buddhism, and Classical Tantra.

Mind-Body medicine is the science and art of working in co-regulated balance

In this model, we hold the belief that everything is interconnected, everything interacts with and affects everything else.

I approach healing not just by viewing the body in isolation, but by considering its relationship with the external environment and your connections with others and yourself.

I also believe that the best person to heal the body is you, and this is done through self-knowledge, deep internal awareness, mindfulness and compassion.

So,  where do I come in?  I support you to journey into profound self-knowledge, and empower you to ultimately, continue your journey independently or alongside others, as you choose.

Co-regulated balance means utilising the power of meditation to effect neuroplasticity and bio-plastic change.  I guide you into meditation and then join you in the practice. I firmly believe that meditating with others is far more impactful than meditating alone. This also draws upon the science of the magnetic resonance field of the heart by the Heart Math Institute (here).

Mind-Body Medicine works with the body's neuroplasticity and bio-plasticity to support you in deepening into knowledge of self and healing.  Using a variety of meditation techniques from body-scan to walking meditation, sound healing and compassion practices, we'll explore the following techniques and more:

  • Heart Rate Variability

  • The gut-brain axis

  • HPA (hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal) axis

  • Cortical re-mapping and neuroplasticity

  • The heart-brain connection

  • Psychoneuroimmunology

  • The vagus nerve

  • Meditations effects on the brain's neurotransmitters

  • Stress and stress reduction

The science behind Mind-Body Medicine

The Meditation & Mind-Body Medicine that I practice at Sacred Stillness is also steeped within the wisdom traditions of Classical Tantra, Buddhism and Yoga and the philosophy that "everything affects everything" is deeply held within the non-dual practices of Classical Tantra / Non-Dual Saiva Tantra.

In the profound words of my teacher, Hareesh (Christopher) Wallis...

On this path, we seek to shed misconceptions and mental constructs that do not serve us in recognizing the Truth: all that exists, through all time & space, is one all-encompassing and unbroken field of awareness.[1]
